Based on the graphs below, the tropical bivalves do seem to have a substantially lower extinction rate than bivalves living in other parts of the world. For them, the tropics are a museum, as well as a cradle.

Do other organisms fit this pattern too? It’s too soon to say. We’d need to study a lot more data.
